This weekend is the dreaded fall time change! They promised us last year that over here on the West Coast they were going to stop the time change moving forward but apparently not yet. I remember always thinking that the time change never really affected me but in recent years I realized it definitely did.
A great habit to get into BEFORE the weekend arrives, which will hopefully help to make it less difficult next week, is to start going to bed earlier NOW so your body will get adjusted naturally. Starting tonight I'm going to make sure that I crawl into bed by 9pm.
Top tips for better sleep in no particular order:
#1 Stay off your phone/electronic device at least an hour before bed!
(All that crap will still be there tomorrow.)
#2 Read a book instead Like a real one with a cover and pages made of paper. 😉
#3 Start a deep breathing practice. Inhale slowly for a count of 4, Exhale slowly for a count of 4. 😴
#4 Try a guided meditation. (You can use your phone for this just don't look at it).
#5 Do some gentle Yoga poses before bed. The best ones would be any forward bends which help relieve stress and calm your brain, by using the deep breathing method above.
Examples: Child's Pose, Downward Facing Dog, Standing Forward Bend
I've included a Guided Relaxation for you to practice with which can be done seated or reclined if you are doing it before bed.
